Solicitar Orçamento The second quarter of 2026 reinforced the strength of Brazil’s animal protein industry. Data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) show an increase in cattle, hog and poultry slaughter compared with the same period in 2025.
Between April and June, Brazil recorded the slaughter of 10.72 million cattle, an increase of 1.3% year over year. Beef carcass production reached 2.76 million metric tons, up 3%.
In the pork sector, 15.58 million hogs were slaughtered, representing a 3.2% increase compared with the second quarter of 2025. Total pork carcass weight also increased, reaching 1.49 million metric tons, up 4.8%.
The poultry sector also posted positive results. The number of chickens slaughtered reached 1.69 billion birds, an increase of 2.8% year over year. Total carcass weight reached 3.74 million metric tons, representing growth of 5.1%.
Compared with the first quarter of 2026, the results varied across the different segments. Cattle slaughter increased by 4.2%, while hog slaughter rose 2%. Poultry slaughter, on the other hand, declined 1.2% in number of birds, although total carcass weight increased slightly by 0.1%.

The results highlight the scale and importance of the animal protein chain to the Brazilian economy. Higher slaughter volumes demonstrate the country’s production capacity and reinforce its position in both domestic and international markets.
